About the labs
Research on text, voice and video
Kovid Labs is the R&D division of Kovid Inc., established in the technology incubation center of IIT Guwahati to support integrative empirical research on data (text, voice, and video) accessible from diversified markets.
We are a team of researchers, professors, scholars, and data scientists located in Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, and Princeton, NJ, working on a mission of developing tools and techniques to extract insightful emotional information based on text, voice, gesture, and visual information, using cloud-based Big Data infrastructure.
At Kovid Labs, AI algorithms are being experimented with the goal of building the Kovid Thinking Machine.

Video analytics
Image processing across multiple cameras and files: face detection, motion detection, emotion detection, text recognition, object and scene detection, tamper detection, gesture detection.
Audio analytics
Recognition of speakers, emotions, gender and age-group, spoken terms and keywords — including sound that cameras never see.
Ongoing research
Law enforcement and consumer audio
With the overarching goal of building the Thinking Machine, Kovid Labs works with multiple partners on use cases involving text, voice and video streaming data from law enforcement sources in the USA, and audio recordings of US-based consumers.
Extracting context from those streams enables a law enforcement department to:
- Detect threats to officers
- Notify supervisors when a civilian is hostile
- Intervene when an officer’s emotional state is deteriorating
Two programme names from the lab: Speech and Emotion Intelligence, and Multi-modal Video Intelligence.
